Introduction
We are a Dutch registered charity called Stichting Remembering Dambuster Les Knight DSO. We are a group of six people who aim to keep alive the memories of the Allied Airmen and local Resistance heroes who died for our Freedom during the second world war.
While our main focus centres on the world famous Dambuster Flt.Lt. Les Knight DSO, we also Remember two other airmen who died here in Den Ham, a frontier village in the Netherlands.
And we do not forget the heroic local resistance group who were betrayed, many losing their lives in the Nazi death camp at Neuengamme, Germany.
We were formed in March 2018 with the intention of celebrating the life of arguably history's most famous Lancaster bomber pilots during a three-day commemoration weekend in September of that year.
This commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of what was called Operation Garlic attracted international media attention across the world. The whole village of Den Ham supported the event and warmly welcomed over 25 international visitors frmo Australia, Canada, England and Belgium, as well as many guests from all over the Netherlands.
Elsewhere on this site you can read more about Les Knight, his seven man crew and those airmen pilot Mosquito Thomas Mair and his navigator Kenneth Blow. We also share with you the story of our Resistance heroes too, whose loss is still felt in the village today.
You will also learn more about us, the people behind this Dutch registered charity.
Thank you for your attention and we hope you enjoy our site,
